1. I quit my job! I just got back from the temp agency, where I went to tell them that, okay, I've come home sick twice in two weeks on top of the one full sick day, this is not working out for me and I'm sure they'd say the same, and she just asked if I wanted to end my assignment. So I'm finishing out the week and then no more overheated warehouse for me. Also no more paychecks, but next week will be intensive job hunt week, I guess. I thought my parents might be annoyed, but when I told my Dad his response was basically "that is the least surprising thing in the history of forever".

2. Mad Men starts on Sunday! ARE YOU EXCITED? Because you SHOULD BE. If not, you should WATCH SEASONS ONE AND TWO, and then you will BE EXCITED. It is the BEST SHOW EVER, and even better it is on the same night as JONAS, so I get a double dose of AWESOME. I might be the only person on Earth who looks forward to those two shows with equal excitement? Whatever. SAL BETTER KISS SOME DUDES THIS SEASON. Dudes like Ken Cosgrove.

3. Nathen Maxwell of Flogging Molly has a side project coming out, Nathen Maxwell and the Original Bunny Gang. My favorite member of Flogging Molly changes, like, daily, but it always comes back to Nate, and this makes me unspeakably happy. Also, his dad plays drums on the album, which is THE CUTEST THING EVER, and also AWESOME. Tangentially related, I am writing Nathen/Joe Jonas right now. Not right now, I'm writing this entry. But I was writing it before I went to Adecco and will probably be working on it while you read this. CROSSOVERS, YES.

Meme, swiped from [livejournal.com profile] enoughoflove:

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.

I am feeling pretty good today! I actually got the sister to compromise on the music when we went out to get food just now, which is the rarest thing ever, so I didn't have to listen to White Tie Affair for the billionth time. Which, okay, I like them fine, enough that I haven't deleted them yet, enough that I round-tripped to Albany to see them with her (sort of), but I have, like, 11 songs of theirs? And it's a rare, rare, rare band I like enough to listen to the same 11 songs over and over and over and over and over and over and.... I don't even listen to most of the JoBros' self-titled album anymore 'cause for a while it was the only one I had and I wore it out a bit. SO. Compromise is good. There was still White Tie Affair, but sprinkled liberally with Demi Lovato. Which was actually a really good combo.

ALSO I finally, finally thought to order decaf at Dunkin' Donuts. There is no reason for me not to, since I can get any flavor I want decaf, I just never think of it. And it's a silly little thing to be proud of BUT. I've had no caffeine except what's in Excedrin all week, so I'm SO HAPPY I avoided getting myself into another upUpUP-crash cycle.

Little things! And now I'm gonna spend the day watching Zefron grow up and get better teeth BEFORE MY VERY EYES.

OKAY SO

last Tuesday we presented and handed in our screenplays. I just got my e-mail from the professor, and while it loaded I had a nice freakout because the filesize was so small.

Heidi:

It's a real winner! Good dialogue, fine structure, producible and a meaningful theme. Couldn't be better. You have a career.

OMGWTFYAY.

(I may post it in [livejournal.com profile] hectorfic at some point)

I totally forgot to post this earlier!

Yesterday and today my screenwriting professor scheduled one-on-one meetings for each of us, to go over the completed first drafts of our screenplays. I was supposed to meet with him yesterday morning, but early + anxiety + procrastinating too long = bad combo so I rescheduled for today at noon.

Even with having to reschedule once due to procrastination, I procrastinated. I ended up finishing at like 11:45 this morning and had to rush to print it and get there on time. Made it.

Anxietyanxietyanxietyanxiety. Jesus shit. This professor is intense as Hell and scared the shit out of me ANYWAY, multiply that by one-on-one and add this was the first actual complete screenplay I've attempted (we've done little exercises to learn dialogue, and practiced formatting with those, but...not the same, lol).

It was THE MOST STRESSFUL THING EVER. He just SAT THERE and read through it and occasionally scribbled on it with his black pen (I wish it were red. Black doesn't stand out very well, harder to retype) and sometimes muttered something and HEART ATTACK.

And...partway through maybe the third page, third or fourth, he started looking up every now and then and complimenting me. Complimenting the piece. Pointing out things he liked. Telling me how well something worked. Accompanying one of his scribblings with "that's a really great line you've got buried there."

You guys? He liked my fucking screenplay. Like, really liked it. He had NO comments regarding plot or setup or characterization, just grammatical errors and a few little dialogue things.

MY SCREENPLAY DOESN'T SUCK. YOU GUYS. I ROCK.

There were two really nice things about starting work on the prompt machine: One, most of what I needed to know I'd already done for the smut generator and was extremely comfortable with it and two, I knew exactly what it was I needed to learn.

Click for massive amounts of nerding )

So there it is. A site that takes any character lists, chooses two characters at random, adds a prompt that's silly or serious at the user's discretion and, if the user so chooses, assigns a special extra limitation.

God, you guys. I rock so hard.

I suppose it's a good sign my "omg I suck" issues are getting better, that it's ~2 hours into screenwriting, I've had a piece critiqued (I'll post it at some point, I like it) and I have yet to feel worthless. Whoo.

ALSO I found this reading through old entries, and even though hardly anyone answered and I doubt interest has picked up, lol...

01. Do I have a distinct style of writing?
02. If so, what exactly is it that defines my style?
03. Would you say my stories follow a certain theme?
04. Is there anything you feel I ought to improve or change?
05. Does my style (if I have one) remind you of anyone else?
06. Judging from whatever writing of mine that you've seen, what do you think is/are my strength(s)?
07. What do you think are my weaknesses?

I finished the big-ass fic I've been working on. Clocks in at 13,349 words.

I...think it's the best thing I've ever written. I do know I've never quite had the emotional reaction to anything else - the last 1000 or so words, I was crying so hard I could barely type. I mean...shit. It's good.

I might post it all in one go at RockFic. But there are some cliffhangers in there that are just to delicious not to force on people. Heh.

I don't know. I'm kinda shellshocked right now. Intense shit.

And now...back to Mondrian, I think. Or maybe some mindless net surfing, THEN Mondrian.

I FINISHED MY JAVA FINAL OMG

omgomgomg yay

omg

(I didn't finish my research paper, though. Not even CLOSE)
nicole anderson, b&w, big hair
I meant to post this on Thursday, but I forgot.

I had a Java test. Wanna know what I got on said test?

100

Word, bitches. Who da man?

I da man.

*cough*

Right.

*sigh* I've been really good about drinking decaf lately, but cafe la france has this awesome Kahlua-flavored coffee that doesn't come in decaf and I've had a few cups. And this morning I forgot to order decaf.

It's interesting. I haven't totally cut caffeine out of my diet - I'm eating a pretty significant amount of chocolate - but every time I have a caffeinated coffee I go through the "OMGSUPERHYPER omgsupercrash OMGcaffeinewithdrawal" cycle. Not so fun. You'd think I'd learn.

Today was my last day at the Y. I think Josh got fired, he wasn't there last week or today, and this week his mail slot didn't have his name on it anymore and he had no time card. :/

It was totally uneventful and insanely draining. Plus the commute home was dreadful. Whee.

I have to do a research project on Piet Mondrian. If you don't know, he's the one who does the paintings that are just black lines and primary colors that are most often victims of the "why the fuck is this art a retarded kindergarten kid with a ruler could do this in five minutes" thing. Whee.

I love his work, though. And my project is going to be kickass. So nyah.

I'm tempted to write it in a hugely unprofessional tone. "Petey, as nobody called him, had a sweet beard, and his wife was pretty hot. A retarded kindergartener with a ruler can easily replicate his paintings. ART ROOLZ. The end."

I wonder if I can muster the energy to go to Shaw's and get some food.

Probably not.

I got into UNC Greensboro

:D :D :D :D :D

That's my #2 choice, so I'm still kind of antsy waiting for Asheville to get back to me...

But.

I never. Ever. Ever ever ever. EVER. Have to do another trimester at JWU. Ever. Ever ever. Never.

Ever.

:D

Also: I look totally fucking hot today. Just FYI.

We had a Java quiz Tuesday. Four essay questions and a little bit of coding.

Essays were no problem. I can handle the theoretical stuff fine.

Coding...ick. Ick ick.

Figured I'd bombed the coding question.

Nope!

Got a 17/20 on that question (and 10/20 on one of the ones I'd thought was no problem, eesh)

83 on the quiz. Yaaaaay me.

(this class is still too hard and I still suck at programming. But there's hope!)
