Bon Jovi - The Circle
Oct. 27th, 2009 09:04 pmBon Jovi have a new album! They are still my first epic love.
( Thoughts. Warning: SO MUCH BABBLE AND INCOHERENCE )
Verdict: Oh Bon Jovi, never change. I am kind of curious to see where they go after 2010, 'cause their sound tends to change ever decade, but I think I'm getting some flashes here. There's so MUCH to every song, but this is so MELLOW. IDEK. I feel like Jon has hit this point where he's CONSTRUCTING songs, he's not just writing shit down and finding something for everyone to do. Like, idk, they've never been unpolished or half-ass but there's something about this that is SO MUCH MORE than they have been, like everything's so...full, idk. I AM SO NOT PUTTING THIS RIGHT. Whatever. I LOVE THIS SHIT my carpool buddy is gonna be so sick of it by the end of the week.

concert pics
Oct. 13th, 2009 11:15 amI don't have much of a recap/review, idk. The Saturday afternoon show was basically the Friday night show, which was kind of disappointing, BUT Nick's piano hadn't been working Friday night so we did get Fly With Me and Much Better, which I'd been disappointed about missing Friday night. SO. IDK. It was amazing and I want to go to a BILLION JONAS BROTHERS CONCERTS NOW.
My camera is kind of awful for concerts, my photos always come out grainy, but whatev, you get the gist. I hardly have any pictures of Nick, because he is a GRANDPA who DOESN'T MOVE (okay, he was sick, WHATEV, he's a grandpa).
( Photos )
Also, watch this video at 3:22 to hear Kevin holler I WON'T BE A VICTIM because before there might have been a little bit of doubt that they added this back in to the set list 'cause the girl the song's about has just started talking about Kevin again.
ALSO, I haven't been able to find video of it yet, but at the beginning of Burnin' Up NICK J WAS KIND OF RIDICULOUS. The show must be loosening him up, because he was MIMING ALL THE WORDS. HE WENT UP ON HIS TOES FOR "GOT ME ON MY TOES". IDEK. I am used to that shit from Kevin and Joe I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE IT FROM NICK.

UNO DOS that's it.
Oct. 8th, 2009 09:42 pm1. JONAS BROTHERS TOMORROW OH GOD SO EXCITED. I'm hoping I can either get upgraded to a better seat for tomorrow night, or something good will be available for Saturday afternoon. IDK, all ticketmaster's giving me for the afternoon show aren't HORRIBLE, but they're worse than my tomorrow seats, and I've been an exclusively small-venue person for a while (and even the last 2/3 arena shows I did, I had good seats) so NEED THE FLOOR.
2. GLEE last night was. OMG. It's been topping itself every week for the last month, which. AWESOME. Anyway last night was about mashups (also plot things, but whatever) and MASHUPS ARE MY FAVORITE, seriously, NOTHING MAKES ME HAPPIER than jamming two songs together and allowing them to have sex in my ears. WHAT. So I was gonna love it ANYWAY and then one of the mashups was It's My Life/Confessions Pt. II. BON JOVI SONG ON GLEEEEE. MASHED UP. UNF UNF UNF UNF UNF. Watch it, it's GLORIOUS. And WHY AREN'T YOU ALL WATCHING GLEE RIGHT THIS MINUTE?

got my t-t-t-t-tongue in my cheek
Oct. 5th, 2009 08:15 pmThere's a guy at work who looks a lot like Gabe Saporta; it's mildly distracting. Delightful. But distracting.
Apparently, this week they're keeping a close eye on us and deciding which temps to keep and which to weed out for the next few weeks. This is a good week to start that, since I'm ditching work on Friday to go see the JoBros. Fuuuuuuuck.
I wrote more Kevin/Carden. I say this a lot, but I think this is my favorite thing I've written in recent memory. Weirdly, I have a hard time reading/writing Zefron with anyone but Kevin, but Carvin (COME ON, IT'S THE PERFECT PAIRINGSMUSH, WORK WITH ME HERE) is almost easier to write than Kevron.

Sep. 23rd, 2009 09:03 pmWhen stripping labels off cardboard cans, you use a safety blade to cut the labels in half, and that requires pinching the label to make a little gap to slide the blade in. We got a bunch of new temps today, and one of them was having trouble with the cutting; she kept referring to the gap as a "hole", saying she was "having trouble finding the hole".
And in the midst of a bunch of us loling about the unintentional double entendre, she busts out with "well, I ain't a fucking dyke" to, presumably, explain why she's not good at hole-finding.
Guess how many people acted as if "dyke" isn't an okay thing to say. I bet you guessed right, unless you have any faith in people at all.
One guy, one of the ones who started today, said he didn't think anyone there was. Because three hours is enough time to tell that, because any amount of time is enough time to tell, because everyone's a stereotype.
And I kind of felt like garbage for not saying anything, but seven or eight people not even flinching - more than that, laughing like crazy - at the word, at the very idea that someone around them might be omggay, that's a little daunting.
IDK. I mostly kept my headphones in for the rest of the day after that. And I...if nothing else, I feel like maybe I'm making the right decision being closeted, even if it makes me feel kind of cowardly and leads to awkward situations like the brother setup.
Speaking of headphones, I'm gonna need you all to buy or download Mika's new album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much. It's a big rainbow in audio form, like Life In Cartoon Motion but better. Toy Boy (lyrics) is completely 100% about Kevron (and actually works fairly neatly as a several-years-in-the-future Zac-POV coda to
blackwayfarers's Slow Dancing In A Burning Room. I was jotting down fic notes earlier and realized that's all I was doing, writing embittered Burning-Room-'verse future!Zac).
Seriously:
It’s a cruel cross that I have to bear
If you come a little close I’m going to pull your hair
More than just a toy in a patch-blue suit
Hold me in your arms I’m just a boy like you
But your mama thought there was somethin’ wrong
Didn’t want you sleeping with a boy too long
It’s a serious thing in a grown-up world
Maybe you’d be better with a Barbie girl
Anyway, Kevron aside, it's completely impossible to be anything but happy listening to Mika.
In other music news, I finally got around to downloading Cobra Starship's Hot Mess, and I'm really disappointed no one told me there was a Cash Cash remix of Good Girls Go Bad. That is just way too much electronic cheesy scene awesomeness for me to handle unprepared.

I knew Kevin would remind me why he's my favorite once I started drifting Joe-wards.
I was kind of disappointed that his interview thing in the Rolling Stone was with Brad Paisley, because I really, really don't like Brad Paisley - I think his music's okay for the most part, with a few standouts, and the less said of what I think of him-the-person the better. BUT he listed one of his favorite songs as Nickel Creek's "When You Come Back Down" and I AM THE MOST PATHETIC PERSON EVER I got all dopey-mushy about it.
Because, okay, I basically think Nickel Creek is the best band in the entire world, ever. I cried when I found out they weren't together anymore, actually sobbed. Their music is beautiful, incredible, and I wish everyone in the whole world would listen to them and love them as much as I do. I don't listen to them as much as they deserve because I can't just put them on in the background, I have to immerse myself, put them on and do nothing else for a while.
And "When You Come Back Down" is the song that made me fall in love with them, and it's beautiful, and I love it like burning, and I maybe possibly cried or wanted to, a little bit, to see it and them get a little love from KJo. IDK I am pitiful. It's the best song ever, I always forget how much I love it and I always cry when I listen to it PITIFUL.
Anyway. Everyone should hear it. So listen to it and then go buy some Nickel Creek albums and try to be HALF AS AWESOME AS KEVIN.

Aug. 12th, 2009 04:50 pm1. I quit my job! I just got back from the temp agency, where I went to tell them that, okay, I've come home sick twice in two weeks on top of the one full sick day, this is not working out for me and I'm sure they'd say the same, and she just asked if I wanted to end my assignment. So I'm finishing out the week and then no more overheated warehouse for me. Also no more paychecks, but next week will be intensive job hunt week, I guess. I thought my parents might be annoyed, but when I told my Dad his response was basically "that is the least surprising thing in the history of forever".
2. Mad Men starts on Sunday! ARE YOU EXCITED? Because you SHOULD BE. If not, you should WATCH SEASONS ONE AND TWO, and then you will BE EXCITED. It is the BEST SHOW EVER, and even better it is on the same night as JONAS, so I get a double dose of AWESOME. I might be the only person on Earth who looks forward to those two shows with equal excitement? Whatever. SAL BETTER KISS SOME DUDES THIS SEASON. Dudes like Ken Cosgrove.
3. Nathen Maxwell of Flogging Molly has a side project coming out, Nathen Maxwell and the Original Bunny Gang. My favorite member of Flogging Molly changes, like, daily, but it always comes back to Nate, and this makes me unspeakably happy. Also, his dad plays drums on the album, which is THE CUTEST THING EVER, and also AWESOME. Tangentially related, I am writing Nathen/Joe Jonas right now. Not right now, I'm writing this entry. But I was writing it before I went to Adecco and will probably be working on it while you read this. CROSSOVERS, YES.

More Jonas
Jul. 28th, 2009 04:26 pmSo, basically, I learned with Bon Jovi that it's entirely possible to have too much music with a band I like (seriously, if I want to listen to Jovi these days [LOL SEE WHAT I DID THERE] I end up having to make a smart playlist with about 400 requirements to get down to the Jovi I'm actually in the mood for), so with most bands now I tend to stick to just studio albums and the reallyreally cool extra stuff.
Which is why I hadn't heard the ballad version of Tonight (which is my favorite song of the moment) from back in January until now and RIGHT NOW I AM KICKING MYSELF and am tempted to go into full-on NOW I NEED 400 BILLION JONAS SONGS IN ITUNES OR I'M NOT A REAL FAN overdrive right now.
I am pretty sure that none of you trust my taste in music right now, but SERIOUSLY, there are several of you on the flist (I'm mostly looking at the people who appreciate Jovi, especially post-80s Jovi, especially 00s Jovi) who would really love the Jonas Brothers if you give them a chance, and this is as good a song as any (it's possible I'm blinded by my current obsession with it) to start with. SERIOUSLY. LISTEN. GET SUCKED IN.
Also! I want Kevin Jonas to be my girlfriend. I am the worst lesbian ever. Or...best lesbian ever?

Several Things
Jun. 24th, 2009 06:58 pm1. David Bryan's first musical is gonna be on Broadway starting in September, yay! Website's here. I am delighted.
2. I've started a del.icio.us recs list here. I haven't even finished adding the fic I have bookmarked yet, not to mention the stuff I love but haven't needed to bookmark, so it's very small right now. I'll finish adding stuff soonish and then keep it maintained; if you share fandoms with me and think I have good taste (which, tbh, makes your own taste suspect), you may wanna check it out.
3. For the crafty/DIY-prone on my flist, check out Generation T and Generation T: Beyond Fashion, books about converting t-shirts into...whatever. I find the author's writing style incredibly grating - very LOL OMG LOOK HOW ~PUNK~ I AM OMG PUNKPUNKPUNKPUNK DID I MENTION PUNK - but just skip the introductions (to the book and to each pattern). I've done nothing but sew all day, and most of yesterday, and even just hand-sewing I've got two new shirts and a pair of gloves already.
4. You will all roll your eyes and not listen to this rec anyway, but for serious give the Jonas Brothers' new album a listen. Especially "Much Better" - if I posted that without any info, and asked people to guess who sang it, I am 90% sure no one would guess Jonas.
mayqueen517, I'm looking in your direction specifically. YOU'LL LIKE IT I SWEAR. They're getting very Hanson-y, and I could use more Hanson-y bands in my life.

May. 7th, 2009 02:09 pmUuuuugh I'm in a shitty-ass mood today.
Yesterday sister and I went to a concert in Albany. It's a 3.5 hour drive one-way, and she doesn't drive so it was all me. We bought the tickets for White Tie Affair, but there were a bunch of other bands on the bill (none of whom I'd heard of at the time we decided to go, but once I'd actually listened to them all actually found a band I liked better than WTA, Cash Cash).
Anyway, long-ass drive, sister shitty company, blah blah...we got there and White Tie Affair weren't even playing. They were definitely on the bill, we'd seen five or six different lineups for this show from various MySpaces and the venue page, and they were on all of them, but they weren't there and no one mentioned them. Sooooo all that drive for pretty much nothing, because the show was good but we would never have gone that far for any of the other bands (except I totally would for Cash Cash. I'm in love. But I didn't know them at the time).
The venue was pretty nice, though. Huge, and there were actually decent places to sit with views of the stage, so I didn't feel like I'd wasted my time/money sitting through 4/5 acts. Hard as fuck to find, especially since the google maps directions were supremely unhelpful (once we got off the interstate, we were supposed to drive 2.5 miles, make a u-turn [wtf], go right, go right. No street names, nothing HELPFUL, just u, r, r.).
I did look pretty fabulous, btw. I bought these bright pink tights sometime last year to match a shirt I bought at the same time, but the shirt doesn't look good with any of my skirts so I never got to wear them. So I had a black vesty-halter thing, denim skirt, brighty pink tights and stompy boots. Hardcooore.
Got home at 2 am, kind of disappointed and completely wiped out, to find out our uncle's gonna be in Waterbury today (hour away) and he'd suggested driving up here to stay the night and hang out. Which was a bad idea for like 80 reasons. So Dad's first question when I crawled in after a 13-hour day, 7 of which were spent in the car, was "would you mind going to Waterbury tomorrow for dinner with Uncle Pete?"
"Do I have to drive?"
"Well it would just be you and Andrea."
I think the fact that I didn't just let loose a gigantic FUCK YOU THE FUCK TO FUCKING HELL FOR SUGGESTING THAT, YOU FUCK shows remarkable restraint. But we compromised, he made some time so he's gonna drive. But he told me this morning that he might have insisted. FUUUUUUUUUCK YOU.
Anyway I'm headachey and tired and am going to sleep in the car. Wheeee.

Mar. 13th, 2009 08:50 amI thought this conversation would leave me angrier than it has; it's frustrating, but not on the level I was expecting. If nothing else, the fact that I went in to the conversation expecting to gain nothing and get nowhere leaves me rather immune to disappointment.
It's given me a chance to articulate things I believe but rarely talk about, at any rate.
I have started a post about what people are actually saying when they attempt neutrality by claiming there has been "bad behavior on both sides", while refusing to say anything about what that behavior is. I keep scrapping it; words aren't working for me the way I want them to lately.
Consider putting something up for auction, or bidding on something already up, at
con_or_bust; being too broke to bid on a thing but wanting to contribute, I plan on auctioning fic off once I work out some specifics. If I decide it wouldn't be too much for the anxiety, which has been horrid lately, at least.
Also, if you're into poppy-cheesy-emo a la Fall Out Boy (
mayqueen517 I'm looking at you, among others), check out The White Tie Affair and Secondhand Serenade. Cheesy, but very fun.

12 Flogging Molly – Alive Behind The Green Door

Several Things
Sep. 18th, 2008 09:34 pmI've got a ton of things I keep forgetting to post, because...stuff. So random catch-all poststravaganza time YAY.
1. Pimpage:
xmas_rocks nominations are open! XMas Rocks, for people who aren't aware, is a multi-bandom slashfic secret santa exchange organized by the ever-awesome
sidewinder, and it rules. There are a wide range of bandoms represented, and any rock band/solo act is welcome, so nominate away! Nominating doesn't bind you to participate, but it does ensure that, come signup time, if you want to participate the bands and pairings you wanna read and write are available. If you wanna read stories from past years, get a feel for things, everything's archived right here.
2. Possible pimpage: In
torch_wood, a poster is trying to gauge interest in a Torchwood fic exchange, so any Torchwood fans on my flist who'd be interested, go drop a line here. I'd love to see something like this take off, so...yes.
3.
purplejamish! I promised you Journey, and I've been slacking, but here there be Journey's Greatest Hits, plus a pretty spiff remix of Don't Stop Believin' if you're into that.
ETA: 4. I forgot one other thing! Okay everyone guess why I am more awesome than you.
Give up?
Because some of my Sims are Catholic schoolgirls on choppers. FUCK YES.

Lesbian Love Songs
Aug. 27th, 2008 12:18 pmSo this is pretty badass: a list of youtube links to lesbian love songs.
"To make the list: the singer must be a woman; the love lyrics must be obvious; and the love object must be unmistakably a woman. Not friendship love, but undisguised sensuality, an open expression of same-sex attraction."

Some Un-Wanky Lighthearted Goodness
Jul. 29th, 2008 02:53 pmAre you male or female, based on your browsing history?
I'm 94% lady. Were I feeling wanky, I'd rant about biological determinism. Or gender essentialism, I can't remember which one of those is which. /iz gud feminist.
Def Leppard have released the video for C'Mon C'Mon. In case you've forgotten my flailing, this song is close to being the most perfect piece of aural candy ever released, bested only by Love and Candy In Your Hands. Lepp have really cornered the market on candy.
The video is just. Oh. SO MANY HEARTS. How can anything be wrong in the world when that video exists.

"CMT CROSSROADS: DEF LEPPARD AND TAYLOR SWIFT premieres Friday, Nov. 8 on CMT."
I have been DYINGDYINGDYING to know who they were getting paired with for Crossroads, because I couldn't think of many combinations I liked, and this. is. perfect.
IF JOE DOESN'T GET TO SING TEARDROPS ON MY GUITAR, I WILL HAVE TO CHOKE A BITCH. For so much serious.
(also: got my car back today. I has a car again yaaaay)
