Overall Thoughts:
I started out with Bon Jovi fanfic, and when I first started I was a fucking machine. Probably not everything I wrote was awesome, I bet a whole bunch of it wasn't really even that good, but I was so consumed by these people and had so many stories I wanted to tell that there was probably a good while I didn't go more than a day without writing something. And then it just kind of...slowed down, and stopped, and for a while I was bouncing around different bandoms but nothing ever hit me quite that way. And then I found the Jonas Brothers, and oh my GOD it's been so good to have that feeling back.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Way more. I wrote ten fics last year, and the beginning of the year was so slow I figured I'd do even less (I didn't write a single thing between mid-February and August). And then BOOM, JoBros.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
I never, ever thought I'd be writing the Jonas Brothers; even if I'd foreseen being a fan, I used to be incredibly squicked by incest. So that would rule out Kevin/Nick and Kevin/Joe and definitely Kevin/Joe/Nick. Plus when I first got into the Jonas Brothers, I didn't like Kevin that much, so nothing with him in it. And then I don't think Kevin/Zac or Kevin/Carden had even been conceived in January, so. Basically, NOTHING I WROTE THIS YEAR was foreseeable.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Falling Through the Night..., Road Dogs, Road Dogs: Eleven..., and Under The Sea. I love them all for very different reasons.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Not that I can think of. Nathen/Joe, maybe, but I'm so used to just sticking pairings together with little to no regard for how cracky they may be that doesn't feel risky anymore.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I would really like to finish the massive Kevron kidfic that was just bursting right out of me for a while there. It would be kind of awesome to finish my
jonas_harlequin fic at some point. And. IDK. Just write.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year: Under the Sea. I'm also really partial to Falling Through the Night... and When I'm Around Her, but I feel like with Under the Sea I said a lot more than I set out to; with the other two, I said a lot less.
My most popular story of this year: Falling Through the Night, Rising from the Ashes, as far as I can tell.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Cake. I need more Leverage friends.
Most fun story to write: Road Dogs: Eleventy, Hot Messes: Sixty-Nine. I hate being the kind of dork who laughs at her own jokes but I KEPT DOING IT writing that, and I still do it rereading it.
Story with the single sexiest moment: IDK. What I Did On My Summer Vacation, the drunken bathroom makeout.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: most armadillos can't actually roll up to protect themselves.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Um. I don't feel like I really had a handle on Zac before Road Dogs, which is why I never posted any of the Kevron I started before then, so maybe that? And Falling Through the Night..., for Joe.
Hardest story to write: IDK, I don't remember any of them being particularly difficult. I Don't Blame You... was supposed to be longer, but I ended up stopping it early 'cause the rest wasn't coming.
Biggest Disappointment: Pretty as a Princess. I still feel like there hasn't been a really good in-character Kevin/Joe fic, and that's what I wanted to write, but it was for a challenge and nothing was working except fairly by-the-numbers porn, so the ship-manifesto-in-fic-form I still feel like the fandom needs never happened.
Biggest Surprise: So way back when we were all wanking over what "bandom" meant, I basically hated Bandom (there were other reasons, but it was definitely not until then I threw up my hands and declared the entire fandom unfit for my company). Apparently now I can't write anything without a Bandom appearance. LOL OOPS.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: I...am really not sure. I don't think any of them are that telling.
