I'm home! Exhausted, and inexplicably anxious (although that's died down quite a bit in the last ten minutes are so).

The trip was largely uneventful, which = yay but also = boring. My dad flew to Charlotte, rented a U-Haul and drove to Asheville, where we packed up all my crap for about an hour Tuesday night (hour and a half including loading the car onto the tow-y thing) and an hour or so Wednesday morning and we were off. (The whole trip is chronicled in hourly updates on my Twitter page [my mom wanted hourly texts, so I texted Twitter with the same thing I sent her]).

Worst part of the trip was cut for TMI )

Best part was last night. We stayed with a college friend of my dad's (my dad dropped out, friend's a laywer now) outside Washington D.C. (outside = it was less than 20 minutes from his apartment to the FDR memorial), Jake. So we showed up and I let the cats stretch their legs a little (they promptly hid behind the stereo cabinet), Jake and my dad got stoned and Jake and I drank. I was kind of having anxiety issues at the beginning, but that went away fast enough. Dad and Jake got stoned listening to Pat Benatar. This is very high on the list of things every child should get to see their father do. Anyway after they got stoned and I had a few drinks we went sightseeing - Dad had moved out of Washington before they built the FDR memorial, so we went there, and the WWII memorial hadn't been built when I was in D.C., so we went there, and neither of us even knew the Einstein memorial existed, so a quick stop there.

Mistake: I had two cups of coffee this morning. I've been so good about avoiding caffeine! And now here I am at 1 am drinking iced coffee on the slippery slope to constant caffeine addiction. YAY.

Anyway. The drive today was interminable. Kitties behaved beautifully both days, though, which made me happy. And they seem happy here; they've been exploring and trying to work up the courage to approach the dog. So. Happy kitties = yay. And I'm still not entirely sure this was the best decision, but we'll see.

I keep meaning to write up a post about the difference between misogynist characters and misogynist text. I'm entirely too lazy, yay. Also something sprouting from that last [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants post I linked, about where I believe author's rights extend and don't extend. Clearly too lazy for that, too. We shall see.

My dad's gonna rent a U-Haul and we're gonna tow my car home. I'm not entirely sure this is the best of all the options he came up with, but eh. And if he expects me to drive he is insane. Big honking truck with a car behind it nooooo thank you. He did most of the driving when we came down here, so he should be fine.

I've been stressing all day about the kitties but I think they'll be fine. My dad's gonna bring down two cat carriers, I've got plenty of food left so I can pack up a tupperware container for them, and I can do a shoebox or something full of litter. PetSmart sells a bunch of different kitty anxiety pills, so I'll probably drug them up for the drive, and afaik right now we're planning on stopping somewhere overnight so they can get some time out of the carriers to eat and poo. I'm still nervous; this is a long drive, and they've never even been in the car before, and I'm worried how they'll settle with the pets at home and I am terrified I'll have to give them up...but I'll do what I can. But. *frets*

Had a wicked migraine last night. Didn't wanna take Excedrin on such an empty stomach - caffeine, and all - so I took a bunch of Ibuprofen and crawled into bed around 11. Woke up wide-awake around 2, settled in to watch some tv, and around 2:30 my roommate knocked on my door to say she hadn't realized I'd been planning on going to bed so early, she'd been planning to go to the grocery store late, avoid the heat. I actually hadn't known our Ingles was open 24 hours, lol. I needed a check cashed and neither of us thought I'd be able to do it that late but we headed out anyway; we were right, no check cashy...and the manager told us even if we'd shown up during the day they wouldn't have cashed my particular check. Right, yay. I had a little cash so I grabbed some frozen goodies.

We had a pretty decent talk, she's less sullen and guilt-trippy than initially. So, y'know, yay. This morning (I say morning, it was after 2, w/e) we went to her bank to cash my check and back to the grocery store. I has food now; and since I was spending my birthday money I bought expensive tea instead of the cheapo store-brand bulk-boxed green tea I've been buying. The current pitcher is Bigelow Plantation Mint, which has always been one of my favorites. And I splurged on some Thai Kitchen Chili Garlic sauce because OM NOM NOM.

Rock Band PS2 is only $100 at Amazon right now. I...don't have $100. But for RB, that is cheap. Enh enh enh.

Well, according to the last text message I got, this flight isn't canceled, and I'm looking right at my license, so I might actually make it out of Asheville this time.

Went to bed at 4:30 am.

Woke up at 8:30.

Procrastinated.

Went to finish getting ready around 9:00.

Couldn't find license.

Spent two hours frantically hunting. And when I say frantic I mean hollering at the cats who weren't really doing anything wrong and at one point crying.

11:00 Dad calls.

Flight cancelled. Orbitz rescheduled me for Saturday.

I'm going the fuck back to bed

1. [livejournal.com profile] screwthedaisies is awesome.

2. 8 hours in a car is not awesome.

3. Whattaburger is reasonably good.

4. There was a guy there for the first opening act who looked EXACTLY like Taylor Hawkins. I was gonna take a picture but I wanted to wait until BRMC were on so it wouldn't be so obvious...and he vanished after the first opener. BUT OMG he looked like Taylor.

5. Burning Brides kinda sucked but they had a noose made out of light robe (y'know, plasticy, tubular, blue lights...) and a chick bassist. Who was falling out of her shirt all night. BOOBIEZ OMGZ.

6. BRMC are OMGSOFUCKINGAWESOMEHOTYESOMGROCKOUTHARDCOREFUCKINGYES. *cough* I mean. THEY ARE SO AWESOME. Fuck yes. *insert ten more lines of profanity*

7. Nick wore GLASSESOMGGLASSES *DED*. And it turns out he is invisible to cameras. Vampire!

8. Dear Robert: plz to not be whacking me in the face with your mic stand k thx.

9. Drunk-desperate-braless chick was hilarious but ANNOYING omg.

10. BRMC are fucking awesome.

11. 8 hour car rides after four hours of sleep: not awesome

12. Exceedingly not awesome: throwing out baseless accusations and then filtering the post so the subject of those accusations can't respond. Very mature :)

I'm here :)

Today was loooooooooong. Got up at 8:30, left around quarter of 10, got to Asheville a little before noon. Unpacked the end of my shit, went shopping...

Uuuuuuugh.

Dad didn't bother to look at a map or get directions or ANYTHING before we left so we spent a good hour just driving around looking for shit.

Finally found a Big Lots and got a few things, then the mall and a few more, then I think it was KMart for more. But all this took like five hours, and it was hot and humid and uuuuugh. Plus we stopped at Red Lobster for lunch and I ate too much. And the Blazer was PACKED. And guess who was in the backseat with all the crap :/

Took us forever to find a mattress place. And then forever to actually buy a mattress.

And then we got lost YAY.

Fiiiiiiiiiiinally got back to the apartment, unloaded the car (hot sticky ick ugh blech), furniture assembly time YAY.

My poor Dad had to put my bed together in my hot sticky air conditioner-less room. I put together a dining chair omg yay me. And put together part of the table. I accidentally put one part on upside down but it was only an aesthetic problem so I just put one other one on upside down and made a pattern. Yaaay. Dad finished bed and put desk together in air-conditioned living room. Then he finished the table.

Then he got sick of assembling :( I wanted my bureau done tonight because that's where most of my unpacking is gonna happen, but eh. I don't blame him for being tired.

Speaking of tired, I think I'm gonna make my bed, crawl into it, and die for about 12 hours. LOL.

Yay, the hotel has free internet.

Our initial flight got delayed yesterday, sad face. We only had a 35 minute connection time, and the plane was gonna be 30 minutes late getting in, so...ruh roh. But they backed us up on a flight to Asheville in the morning (our actual flight was into Charlotte) and gave us a list of hotels in Newark and highlighted the ones with the best rates, so...whatev.

We ended up getting into Charlotte on time, though, and our gate was right across from the gate we landed at, so...yay. And it was right next to a Borders! Which...airport shopping, expensive, but again, whatev. Mom bought me a book about Pirates, ooooo.

Second flight kinda sucked. Got stuck on the runway for an hour, stewardess was rude, and I was too tired to read but too awake to sleep (apparently). Enh. Plus, Continental Express was NOT made for two people the size of me and Mom to be sitting together. Or anywhere, really - TINY fucking seats. I think it's funny now, but at the time, the fact that if I wanted my tray to rest flat I had to suck in and maneuver it between two rolls was NOT amusing.

Anyway. We got to Charlotte on time, went to Waffle House, came back, slept. I'm about to go get breakfast, and we're leaving as soon as Mom's done getting ready.

And then Asheville. Yay.
hector_rashbaum: nicole anderson, b&w, big hair (yaaaay)
Almost time to go.

I'm having all sorts of anxiety issues right now. But. Whatever. Somewhere in there, I'm excited. So yay.

In theory, it shouldn't be hard to set up internet and I'll be back online sometime tomorrow. But who knows.

Adios :)

GOD I'm tired.

I'm loving having my license, for serious. Why did I wait so freaking long. Today after church I went for a nice long drive with the windows down and one of my car mixes (my favorite one, it's got Hysteria and Hangin' on the Telephone and Dear Friends and Slang and okay maybe I'm on a bit of a Leppard kick, lol) and mmmm it was nice.

And then...packing. Uuuuugh.

Dad's leaving Tuesday morning with my stuff. He told me Friday he wants me all packed Monday so he can load up the car and maybe leave early.

So of course I put it off until today. And since around 11:30 or so I've been packing. And cleaning. And packing. And doing laundry. And packing. And so on.

I'm up to 10 Staples boxes (I think I'll fill two more), my big tv box, an LL Bean tote bag, a duffel bag, a big plastic underbed thing, plus the boxes my dishes and pots came in.

We're looking at two more Staples boxes, printer box, big-ass computer box, another tote bag, and two big garbage bags for clothes.

And I'm tired.

Excited, though. I need the change. The summer's been kind of a roller coaster (*snort* kind of) and I need it to end. Whee.
hector_rashbaum: nicole anderson, b&w, big hair (yaaaay)
I'm home.

I slept for 12 hours last night.

Pets are awesome.

I want my compuuuuuuuuuter online :( Dad ordered the whatever he needs so hopefully it won't be more than a week

anyway. off to unpack.
hector_rashbaum: nicole anderson, b&w, big hair (hee-yah)
God, today SUCKS.

Morning was awesome, actually, despite design being boring as shit. Caffeine helped us entertain ourselves.

[livejournal.com profile] zek_chan and Jonathan continue to be awesome, and they will be two of maybe three or four things I miss about this school.

Since then it's just been stress on stress on stress. Dad seems to think I've had unlimited time to lay around and pack and prepare. I fucking wish I'd had any fucking free time in the past week. The culmination of the fuckstress was me being late to my exam. Blargh.

I think we're good now, though. Dad's gonna bring some stuff to the apartment so we won't be overcrowded on the ride home, when my exam is over I'll call, we'll go back to the dorm and get me checked out, and hoooooome. I shall sleep the whole way.
hector_rashbaum: nicole anderson, b&w, big hair (lick)
I've hit the most fun part of packing: when I'm sick of it and have so little left that it doesn't really matter to me in the slightest what goes where

on top of that, all my possessions suddenly become way more disposable

I've thrown away shit for no better reason than said shit not fitting in any of the boxes/bags/whatevers I have left.

Which seems silly until you realize I have to pack an entire year of my freaking life in a tiny little two-seater sports car :/

My brother has a Blazer and I WANTED Dad to borrow that so we don't have to squeeze, but according to him the Blazer's gas mileage is so bad it would actually be cheaper to ship whatever we can't fit in the car. Eesh.

So we get squooshed in. Last year, we went half of the way without me realizing that my seat wasn't actually locked in place, I was just packed in with so much stuff it wouldn't move.

Actually I have a neighbor whose son goes to JWU and he's graduating, so said neighbor's gonna come down here this weekend for his graduation, and said if we can't fit everything in the car to just bring it to his apartment and she'll bring it home for us. Awwww, nice.

Except I didn't realize when the parents discussed this with her they didn't get his address, and I don't have his phone number, so this afternoon it'll be phone tag apartment hunting happy time yay.

Forgive the enthusiasm, I'm running on sheer exhaustion and hot cocoa right now. When this crash comes, it's gonna be EPIC.

I had a nice long chat with Dad earlier today. He's gonna order whatever he needs to get my computer online at the house, so I shouldn't have to go more than a week playing musical computers. I have a new phone waiting for me. And he might get me Adobe CS3 omgwtfbbq. Or rather, he'll convince his boss HE needs CS3 and his boss will pay for it and I will reap the benefits.

One of the many benefits to kinda sorta following in Daddy's footsteps.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it here, but I got e-mailed the other night about an apartment that's just...fuck. Two bedroom, fenced in backyard, private entrance, shared kitchen. All utilities included. Being rented by folks who own a canine rescue, so they'll discount it if I'm willing to foster a couple dogs.

The discounted price? $500

That's including utilities, and when I asked if it was furnished they said "it can be".

Hotdamnshit. Puppies! Puppies and cheap and eeenh.

But I can't do $500/month. I could do the $250/month it'd be if I had a roommate...but not the full $500.

Although. Maybe I can convince the parents it'd be worth paying the full $500 by myself for a few months and keep putting up "roommate wanted" ads. I dunno. I told Dad about it and he actually got excited. We shall see. I WANT THE PUPPY HOUSE.

Part of me says "get back to packing" and part of me wants to drag it out because I don't have 2 and a half hours of packing left, but I have 2 and a half hours before I leave to go downtown, and I don't wanna run out of work with half an hour to go and crash. As long as I keep it going, I can probably prevent a crash at least until a trip to Starbucks.

ALSO, let it be known that [livejournal.com profile] zek_chan is the awesomest awesome to ever awesome awesomely. Also, she is awesome. And she rules.
hector_rashbaum: nicole anderson, b&w, big hair (oh no)
I don't think I'll ever get un-tired. Eeeenh.

I don't WANNA pack. I WANNA crawl into bed and just sleep until I have to go downtown tomorrow. Blaaaaah.

zzzzz

ohgodsotired

I need sleeeeeep

but. I have my first exam, which is nice and quick - I just have to give a quick presentation. Then to the bookstore to sell my newswriting book back so I have money for the printer. Then to the printer to get my Mondrian poster printed - it's pretty fucking awesome. Then to Lupo's to get my refund for Southside Johnny :(. Then computer lab to see if I can fix a little issue with my Java project. Then Java exam.

Then back to the dorm where I may nap but I really really need to pack, as Dad's gonna come get me right after my second exam tomorrow and he tends to whine if I'm not 100% ready to go.

Tomorrow I have to do some packing, go present my Mondrian project, come back here to finish packing, go present my Multimedia project, then go home.

Then fall down and sleep for a week.
