Bon Jovi have a new album! They are still my first epic love.

Thoughts. Warning: SO MUCH BABBLE AND INCOHERENCE )

Verdict: Oh Bon Jovi, never change. I am kind of curious to see where they go after 2010, 'cause their sound tends to change ever decade, but I think I'm getting some flashes here. There's so MUCH to every song, but this is so MELLOW. IDEK. I feel like Jon has hit this point where he's CONSTRUCTING songs, he's not just writing shit down and finding something for everyone to do. Like, idk, they've never been unpolished or half-ass but there's something about this that is SO MUCH MORE than they have been, like everything's so...full, idk. I AM SO NOT PUTTING THIS RIGHT. Whatever. I LOVE THIS SHIT my carpool buddy is gonna be so sick of it by the end of the week.

1. David Bryan's first musical is gonna be on Broadway starting in September, yay! Website's here. I am delighted.

2. I've started a del.icio.us recs list here. I haven't even finished adding the fic I have bookmarked yet, not to mention the stuff I love but haven't needed to bookmark, so it's very small right now. I'll finish adding stuff soonish and then keep it maintained; if you share fandoms with me and think I have good taste (which, tbh, makes your own taste suspect), you may wanna check it out.

3. For the crafty/DIY-prone on my flist, check out Generation T and Generation T: Beyond Fashion, books about converting t-shirts into...whatever. I find the author's writing style incredibly grating - very LOL OMG LOOK HOW ~PUNK~ I AM OMG PUNKPUNKPUNKPUNK DID I MENTION PUNK - but just skip the introductions (to the book and to each pattern). I've done nothing but sew all day, and most of yesterday, and even just hand-sewing I've got two new shirts and a pair of gloves already.

4. You will all roll your eyes and not listen to this rec anyway, but for serious give the Jonas Brothers' new album a listen. Especially "Much Better" - if I posted that without any info, and asked people to guess who sang it, I am 90% sure no one would guess Jonas. [livejournal.com profile] mayqueen517, I'm looking in your direction specifically. YOU'LL LIKE IT I SWEAR. They're getting very Hanson-y, and I could use more Hanson-y bands in my life.

Really fab interview with David - he plays a few songs, two from Memphis (one that I've never heard before) and one of his solo pieces. David always gives great interview; this one touches on how he got into musicals, a brief history of Bon Jovi (he actually calls Alec John Such one of the best bassists in the world lololol ok David), and a lot about his own approach to music-making. There are some irritating mic issues but omg totally worth it.

There is new David music online! OHMYGOD YOU GUYS. I am dying.

His (and other people's but who cares screw them) new musical is premiering in Jersey at the end of this month, and some of the music is online, and OMG. David. So much David love, for reals. I just. I can't even. Go listen. I'm dying.

Q Magazine: You were evicted from your lodgings in Vancouver. What for?

JBJ: A lot. We had a rented condo, it was meant for probably two people. We had five people in there. We abused the shit out of the place. You were usually drunk at night and had all the girls and all the stuff that you were supposed to do. The neighbor was a Chinese lady who had all these plastic flamingos in her garden. One night Dave went over with a steak knife and cut all the heads off. She freaked until the police came and said, "you have to leave these premises."

For some reason I find the image of David going after plastic flamingos with a knife utterly adorable. OMG. All "no look I can be a property-wrecking badass, too!" and then all upset he was the one that got them kicked out.

Oh yes.

Tracks )

Download the zip file or pick and choose
If you only take one: R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas. - JBJ (as John Bongiovi)

1. OMG Jon in a wig. *cross one thing off the list of jokes I didn't expect him to do*

2. "Yeah, because I wanna see Jon Bon Jovi ACT. Best night of my life" guy. *crosses another thing off the list of jokes I didn't expect*. And Richie...oh Richie.

3. DAVID. Sparkles. Yes. Sparkly sparkly. <3 Sparkles

4. OHMYGOD Al Gore skit IS SIDEWINDER WATCHING THIS JESUS SHIT. I spent the whole sketch praying Jon would somehow be involved. Also, [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder: it's pretty much a given that JBJ made Hammond dress up as Gore and then had sex with him, y/y?

5. I hate Weekend Update. IT NEVER ENDS.

6. PrettyprettyTaylor *mind go blank*

7. ALIEN JON. Again, [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder: I imagine he kept those sucker-finger gloves for fun times with Gore and/or Hammond.

9. Band naming skit: hitting a leeetle close to home there, SNL. Also: I was all "yay!" they kinda got the appearances right, but they had Davidy-guy as bassist and Alec-y guy as keyboardist :( YES I AM BITCHING ABOUT AN SNL SKIT'S HISTORICAL ACCURACY. Oh God. (and that shirt that JBJ held up? They sold one similar to it last tour - Jon's head BIG and the others little beneath it)

8. DAVID IS SO SPARKLY. SPARKLE SPARKLE.

Also, I don't think I've ever mentioned this, but it's extremely important: I am in love with Jovi's fiddle-violin chick. Mmmm.

In my Top Ten Lepp Songs post, [livejournal.com profile] lesh mentioned noticing I hadn't included Bed of Roses as one of my favorite Jovi songs. And I said that's because they have WAY better ballads. And [livejournal.com profile] lesh said "If you're ever in the mood to make this intense Bon Jovi ballad CD, send it my way."

... Y'all should know by now not to encourage me.

Vh1 Marks Decade of Saving the Music

2 things I noticed, both from this one sentence:

Scheduled to perform are Jon Bon Jovi, John Mayer and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

1. It bothers me that a couple times recently I've seen JBJ capitalizing on the good press associated with helping out Save the Music and its ilk, when as far as I can tell (and I could, of course, be wrong) David's done far more to actually work with such programs.

And far be it from me to say one person's philanthropy isn't as good as another's, and that's NOT what I'm saying. The big-name recognition helps a great deal, I'm sure. But it just feels...sleazy to me, I guess, that JBJ doesn't seem to be able to do it without all the pomp and circumstance.

2. Why is JBJ suddenly spending all his time with Roger Waters? New boyfriends, y/y? Perhaps it's a conspiracy aimed at getting me to write the JBJ/Rog fic I told [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder I was considering.

Very sneaky, Mr. Bon Jovi

I'll let the chat log speak for itself:

9:51:15 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): I've gotta find someone for Richie. I've done Nicko/Tico, Bruce/Jon, David/Markus...
9:51:35 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): oh yeah, Jon/Tobi
9:51:55 PM heavvymetal_queen (Lia): *splode*
9:52:13 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): haha
9:52:30 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): which one were you sploding at?
9:52:54 PM heavvymetal_queen (Lia): Most of em but Jon/Tobi, yum
9:53:24 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): :D

the drabble that ATE MY FREAKING BRAIN and taught me the folly of adding "and any combination" to a list of bands in a drabble challenge
9:53:59 PM heavvymetal_queen (Lia): But that's the way the crack comes to you!
9:54:03 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): yes
9:54:18 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): and it was deliciously cracky. And someday I wouldn't mind writing more.
9:54:31 PM heavvymetal_queen (Lia): We should totally buy gaming dices and roll for random pairings
9:54:47 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): don't say that, I've got a lovely die right here
9:55:11 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): 12-sides

so I could totally assign each side to a person and roll twice...
9:55:19 PM heavvymetal_queen (Lia): :D
9:55:35 PM hector_rashbaum (Heidi): I hate you
9:56:13 PM heavvymetal_queen (Lia): Or roll three times, assigning to each side a prompt for the third roll

And so.

Stuff I've watched recently:

Pursuit of Happyness

Good enough. A little predictable, but if I'd gone to see it in a theater or rented it I wouldn't feel like I'd wasted my money.

Children of Men

Depressing. Holy God, so depressing. I liked it, but I would've liked more backstory. Not sure I'll ever watch it again.

Black Snake Moan

I loved it and I'm not totally sure why but omg. I'm pretty sure I'll end up buying it.

Big Love Season 1

OMG I have the biggest crush on Bill Paxton now. Margine's my favorite. OMG this show

Music and Lyrics

Surprisingly unsuckular. I really, really enjoyed it. For once, I could actually consider Hugh Grant's character lovable. And the music was OMG. Thinly-veiled Wham! references ftw.

Final Destination 3

Sucky sucky suck suck. But yay deaths.

Saw 3

Not as good as the first two. Good for the ol' bloodlust, though.

Bon Jovi Unplugged

Totally not impressed with anything but Hallelujah. David's the only one inspiring any kind of reaction in me lately. Jon just irritated me and Richie was entirely forgettable. And I love AAR, but they need to just step away from these Vh1 specials.

The Lake House

Cheesy but good. Entirely forgettable.

OOC vs AU

Fic-Related Babbling: OOC vs Au )
hector_rashbaum: nicole anderson, b&w, big hair (hee-yah)
It's 9 am on my second day of vacation whyyyyyyyy am I up?

:(

Enh.

Mom saw my tattoo. She kept commenting on how big it is. And making a "oh my god I can't believe you did that" sort of face. She did say it was a pretty design, though.

Someday I'll learn to plan my laundry-doing a little better. Last night before I went out I put in a load of pants. Pants which I would not need for at least 16 hours. When I got home and was tired and planning on going to bed, THEN I put in my pajamas. Didn't feel like waiting up for them, went to bed. This morning I put in shirts right before my shower.

It's gonna be like another half hour before I can get dressed. Whoops.

My new phone is OMGOMGOMG. I was so sure when Dad reminded me our contracts were up this year they were gonna make me get another cheapie one, but Verizon were doing a buy one, get one sale and my brother was willing to pay for his own nice phone so I got the other half of the deal. It's sooooo nice.

When I get text messages, my phone says "It's David Bryan. Is this summer? Because you're soooooo hot."

omg *dies*

(I wanted a Tico voicey one but they were all kinda stupid :( Bah )

(My second favorite was a Jon one: "This is Jon Bon Jovi. Yeah, I set your phone on vibrate...heh heh heh")

When I searched for Bon Jovi ringtones I was completely surprised by how many they had. Even stuff from Jon's solo albums. I was totally not expecting the third ringer in the list to be August 7, 4:15. So, with all that omglookatthevariety in mind, I searched Def Leppard.

All they had was Pour Some Sugar on Me. Baaah.

They have almost the entirety of Poison's greatest hits. And a bunch of Cinderella stuff (but no Push Push :( ). One Leppard song. Enh.

Okay, enough babbling. Must go check the dryer.
